Stonehenge is one of the most popularly known mystic stones in the entire UK, though these stones are neither the only ones nor the most ancient ones. Avebury is the location of a circle of stones that are far older than Stonehenge, which, incidentally, is located 32 kilometres to the south of this location. If you decide to explore this wonderful and strange location, you should consider Marlborough or Calne as your tourist destination, perfect for a nice rest and relaxation time after a long day touring around or you could seek to unwind from the business transactions that you have to deal with everyday.
Unlike Stonehenge, the monument of Avebury are earthworks also called Dykes that is made of 421 meters in diameter and 1.35 kilometres in circumference. Within the Henge is a great outer circle that is conformed by a largest stone circle that has almost 335 meters in diameter and that is believed to be built an estimate of 500 years after the dykes. This is not the only circle that conforms with this strange and mystic stone formation, the northern inner ring has a measure of 98 metres in diameter and the southern inner ring that has an estimate of 108 metres in diameter. Sadly, time, war and the development of new human settlements has eroded and destroyed most of this wonderful WHS.
